GUILD 2010
On May 3rd and 10th, my students performed in the 2010 National Piano Playing Auditions, simply referred to as "Guild". Many, many thanks to Graves Piano & Organ Company for their amazing support of the Columbus piano community and for giving students the opportunity to perform on a world-class 9-foot Steinway.
Guild is a closed session between student and adjudicator. The student is graded on their performance of a prepared program. The program sizes are National (10 pieces), State (7-9 pieces), District (4-6 pieces), Local (2-3 pieces) and Pledge (1 piece). The adjudicator takes into account their age and how long they have studied piano. This is a non-competitive, pass/fail event. I'm happy to report that all of my students passed with flying colors. Congratulations!
Our adjudicator this year was Geraldine Wagoner who studied piano with Minka Bartels of the Netherlands, and piano pedagogy with Frances Mann and flute with Arthur Lora at the Juilliard School. She also studied the Carl Orff process of music education with Joseph Wuytak of Belgium and Gertrud Orff at the Mozarteem in Salzburg. She taught woodwinds and choruses, using the Orff philosophy, to hundreds of students in the Englewood and Ridgewood, NJ schools. She taught graduate students at New York University while fulfilling a teaching fellowship as part of her doctoral studies. Ms. Wagoner served on a master class committee of the People to People Project Conservatory Exchange, going to Moscow and St. Petersburg in 1998. She most recently performed six concerts in Israel with the Collegiate Chorale and the Israel Symphony under the direction of Zubin Mehta. She performed three concerts a year at Carnegie Hall for ten years prior to moving recently to Virginia. A music education consultant, Ms. Wagoner is an active member of MTNA and enoys serving as a Guild Adjudicator.
